In community property states, marital property is jointly owned regardless of title. Marital property is property acquired during marriage except that:
| • | Acquired by gift or inheritance |
| • | Purchased with proceeds of separate property |
| • | Acquired as income from separate property |
Marital property is law in some western states and is not recognized in Georgia.
